Axel is our interpretation of the original flat track sliding barn door hardware that has been in use for over one hundred years. Axel utilizes the same raw steel material and track construction as those original systems, but has been redesigned to be quieter, safer, and more durable. Exposed 3” custom-engineered bearings, and rugged visible fasteners create a product with a beautiful raw edge, and the same clean, modern aesthetic you expect from a Krownlab product.
Made out of 1/4" thick carbon steel, Axel is fabricated to showcase the natural, untouched beauty of this raw and industrial material. Solid steel construction ensures that Axel will continue to function as smoothly and quietly in ten years as it does the day you install it. Axel is available in three finish options: Raw Steel, Black Steel, and Stainless Steel. See below for more information about these finishes.
Axel comes in three convenient lengths, perfectly suited for several common door sizes. Being made of carbon steel, however, means that Axel track is easy to cut and drill on the job site, allowing you the flexibility to use any combination of door panels and door openings.. Considered design and simple step-by-step installation instructions makes Axel easy and quick to install.
Axel is compatible with door panel weighing up to 200 lbs (for heavier panels, contact us), giving you the flexibility to work with door panels of almost any size and material. The steel-on-steel contact surface between the bearing and the track ensures that any door glide smoothly and quietly year after year. As with all our hardware systems, Axel’s patent pending design makes it virtually impossible for a door to become dislodged from the track. Axel Face Mount is compatible with door panels 1-3/8” to 1-3/4” in thickness, and our Top Mount version can accommodate a wide range of panel thickness.

Our Raw Steel finish is made of carbon steel straight from the mill. Raw Steel is our most industrial finish, and is likely to have scratches, mill scale, water marks, and other natural material processing patina causing variances from part to part. Raw Steel is our most field-customizable finish. Spray with salt and water to encourage rusting, or sand with an industrial Scotch-Brite pad to achieve a linear grain appearance. For a more premium and uniform silver finish, consider Axel in Stainless Steel, or Loki in our Brushed Stainless finish.
Made of carbon steel straight from the mill, this raw and industrial finish is likely to have scratches, mill scale, water marks, and other material processing patina. Our Black Steel is not a paint or powder coat, which are both likely to chip or flake. Instead, this highly durable finish is etched into the surface of the carbon steel. For a more premium and uniform black finish, check out Loki in our Black Stainless finish.
This is our basic directional finish applied to Stainless Steel. Often referred to as a No. 4 finish, this graining is smooth to the touch, and adds a linear texture to the product. Made out of stainless steel straight from the mill, this grained finish is likely to have a few minor scratches and other imperfections existing in the raw material. See our FAQ for more information about what you can expect from parts and products made from stainless steel. Please note these bearing wheels are made of mild steel and require different care and maintenance. For a more premium Stainless finish, consider one of our many products offered in our Brushed Stainless finish.
